Episode № 98 Medical Clearance Precedes Orders
Welcome back!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.
In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, then continue with a blog update, and wrap up with something domestic.
Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
Now we are working on our medical and dental clearances. If I knew that I needed a basic physical (specifically a well-visit with no other concerns) to get the orders at all, I would have made that appointment months ago…because my clinic is booking about two months out.
So as far as I know, mine and Kid Jupiter’s health clearances are the only barriers between us and our orders. I’m just extra antsy because the actual orders are a big domino for a very long chain reaction of required tasks.
I’ll spare you the exhausting list of things that we need to do before Mister Jupiter’s outgoing Change of Command ceremony - just know that I had no idea that medical and dental clearances were required to get our orders.
For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…the site is still up and running.
And lastly something domestic.
I’m just pretending to relax while I wait for appointments. The weight of our very long to do list is stressing me out, mostly because it’s a lot of things that REQUIRE orders to schedule at all, so I can’t do anything because I can’t do anything. It’s beyond frustrating. Also I’m expecting to do most of the things by myself because Mister Jupiter will still be working, so he’ll regularly be traveling like always.
For the record, he does a lot via email and phone calls. But selling two cars, one house, dealing with a storage unit and maybe moving into a furnished apartment cannot be completed entirely by correspondence. Especially with a preschooler and a dog. And family that wants to visit, and family that wants us to travel to them. It’s just a lot.
Also!
One day I’ll write and share about the continuous glucose monitors I’ve been wearing for a month. I thought that bread was a problem…I was right. But so are beer, potatoes, and rice. I’ve also learned that the fatigue I experience after meals (which is one of the reasons I usually don’t eat lunch at all) isn’t reactive hypoglycemia (meaning too low blood sugar after a meal) it’s actually when my glucose is high. High like…almost 200 mg/dL.
It’s taken me two CGMs so far to learn that my glucose control isn’t any where as controlled as I thought it was. I’ll dial my usage back and only wear one each month for most of this year. I still have a lot of questions - and I am going to be focusing on what I need to do before and after meals with starches or refined grains. I can mostly avoid those things at home (especially since I do most of the cooking), but I can’t avoid them forever. Especially eating out with friends and family. Luckily I’ve been eating as keto as possible when we’re out. I don’t stick to that diet per se, but that framework is an easy way to avoid my problem foods.
Ordering lettuce wrapped burgers and wine are an easy way to live my life - I bring this up to underline the lack of restrictions I experience. It reminds me of last year in Waco at a nice Italian restaurant. I warned my friends that I was ordering what I really wanted to eat (meaning also that I wasn’t ordering pizza, but very happy to share because we eat family style anyway). I ordered the house salad, and two sides; roasted brussels sprouts and sauteed shrimp. It was amazing. So, we ate well, and I would have loved to watch my glucose rise and fall that day - but I didn’t have my CGM prescription yet so I can only say that I ordered what I wanted and felt great. No regrets.
So, until I can write about my adventures with CGMs, I am gathering a lot of useful data and taking a ton of notes.
And that’s it for today’s episode.
