Episode № 57: TDY Sister Wives

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.
In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, continue with a blog update, then wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
Since we last spoke I went to our installation’s christmas tree lighting, dropped in on a holiday party hosted by the local maintenance squadron, took a quick Santa photo with Kid Jupiter at the back of a C-130, and attended a cookie exchange party hosted by my friend and neighbor.
It was a lot of things, and I definitely got help with Kid Jupiter! Busy seasons like this; multiple social events for families and spouses, while our active duty halves are working out of town, kind of feels like military spouses are a bunch of sister wives (and brother husbands?). We help each other with kids, help with meals, whatever it is that needs an extra hand - everything generally works, and it’s a great community of half-couples getting stuff done!

In other military-related non-news, we are already daydreaming about our next PCS. we have no idea where we are going to move, and we have just a few options. It’s funny to say options as if we have a choice but we really don’t - at least not as much as it may seem. Mr. Jupiter can request assignments, but truly we are going to go where he is needed. It’s just part of the job, and we’re okay with that.
And like almost everybody else on the planet, I definitely don’t like moving, but I enjoy settling in and getting to learn different cities. It’s always a fun challenge for me to find the best brunch, the best taco truck, The best parks, the most adequate dog groomers, and such. It is just a little bit chaotic, but it’s always fun in the end, and we are an adventurous family. We are always sad to leave our most recent address, but equally as excited to meet our new home, awkwardly make new friends, and sign up for rewards programs at whichever grocery store I determine to be our grocery store.

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…
I have only updated outfits of the day Q4, and updated my 21 in 2021 series. It’s funny how easy it is for me to forget about something for months at a time. Turns out that if I task myself at the beginning of the year to only do 21 things, even that I will not succeed. Granted some of the tasks that I lined out for myself were dependent on other organizations, so it wasn’t entirely on my shoulders, but majority of the 21 tasks were all me. I will definitely end the year with a final 21 in 2021 blog post, but unless I sacrifice my sleep time to catch up on yoga - there won’t be too many changes. Hell, I haven’t even cleaned the paper I use…so yeah. That series isn’t going to end with a successful bang - instead it’s going to fizzle out like a damp firecracker.

But that’s really it. I usually have more time to write, but I just haven’t been bursting to write, or edit. I’ve been busy with being a military sister wife, cooking food that my child refuses, and cleaning a house that my dogs work really hard to keep dirty.

And now for my most recent domestic diversion I am just busy with the daily life, and I have not been folding the laundry because I have chosen instead to go to sleep at a decent hour, and bathe regularly.
I don’t think we’ll have any holiday decorations this year because I haven’t had the time to do it, and frankly I don’t care. I know that the end of December is all warm fuzzies and cinnamon-scented kindness…but I’m like that all year long. We donate dollars and objects all year to support our friends, family, and community. We’re always nice to our neighbors, and the only difference between December and the other months is that mine and Mister Jupiter’s wedding anniversary is in there, speckled between the birthdays and mulled wine.
It’s just another month. But if you’ve spent enough time with me anyway, you might realize that I don’t decorate for other holidays either. I might wear something silly on various days, but nothing to adorn the house or to display on the mantle. I’ll probably do things when Kid Jupiter is bigger. The holidays always felt magical to me as a young person, and I want my kid to experience that too - but right now I know that any efforts will be entirely ignored, so I’m not going to waste my precious and rare recording time to do things that won’t be noticed.

And a Thanksgiving follow up from last episode -
We had a great time visiting our friends and sharing a meal with them. Well, Mister Jupiter and I shared the meal. I offered Kid Jupiter stuffing then mashed potatoes, but after two strikes in a row he stopped trusting me and ran away from the table. An hour later I convinced him to at least have a fruit cup - man. This picky eating thing is more stressful on me than it should be. I know it’s a phase, and I know he’ll stop running away from real food, but until then, the stress to simply feed my child is real. Ugh.

And that’s it for today’s brief episode.
