E50: Spontaneous Sunglasses

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, casual fashion, and travel when possible. I’m happy that you’re here with me.
In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, continue with a blog update, then wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
After the Change of Command ceremony, things definitely slowed down a bit. The ceremony happened between the squadron’s class schedule. So Mister Jupiter has been working with the few people that have not taken time off right now, and it’s a good thing, because he is just ticking boxes from his to do list because there is plenty for him to do before everybody is back to work for the new class.
Personally I’m just excited to see you how everybody progresses over the next few years. And I am extra curious about everyone’s future assignments. And if you are wondering where we are going to go next, we have absolutely no idea. Like other aviation families in the Air Force, we can only get stationed with his aircraft if he’s flying, so that is one limitation that we are used to because he’s been flying for many years, but Mister Jupiter has found a narrower path that has fewer flying opportunities, but more interesting desk jobs available.
It’s complicated and I’m sorry for being vague - I just don’t want to bore you with the audio alphabet soup of military intermediate-level education and their acronyms (much less the potential paths that some graduates are offered). But with that in mind overall, I can definitely make time later to write about ILE at CGSC a little bit, with a separate post about SAASS or SAMS, but that one will be obviously colored by our experiences because those follow-on schools were our options - other students had other choices, and many didn’t compete for a follow-on. So those posts won’t be very detailed because I’m not an expert here, I’m just an enthusiastic outsider who likes the ride.
But don’t worry, I’m not a military-super-fan kind of spouse who wears pretend rank, instead I’m a very curious generalist who enjoys geopolitics and foreign affairs (in addition to biohacking and electric bikes). So I’m not an expert in anything, but I know a lot about many things. Also I am always learning, so I sometimes struggle when I want to tell you things because everything is so mutable and I don’t want to give the impression of having solid ground when I don’t know where we’ll even be in two years. But like I said, if I take the time to write about it, I can better share our past and some of the details that have shaped our current life and continue to influence our future options.

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…I wrapped up last season’s Outfits of the Day post, and started this season’s Outfits of the Day post - links to both are in the show notes!
Also, since last week I made time to refresh the post I made about my five favorite gardens in the world.
The only reason that I bring this up, besides it being a task that I was able to complete, but in doing so I discovered that I only retained about 10 photos from our trip to Portland, and the Oregon coast that we took in 2016.
I’m sure you can imagine my surprise, trying to figure out why and where at least 100 photos have gone missing. The upside is that when and where they disappeared, was not recently, so they are definitely not recoverable, which means that I’m not going to stress out about it. I guess we’re just going to have to go back 😅 We really did have a great time in Portland at the Rose Test Garden, and the Japanese Garden. Also we really love the Oregon coast, so I will happily hop on a plane, rent a car, and drive out to Tillamook Creamery for fresh ice cream and cheese…again. Note to self - start drafting a post about the Jupiter Family’s Oregon Coast Favorites.

And now for my most recent domestic diversion I was going to tell you about the surprising amount of time and mental energy it takes to menu plan when Mr. Jupiter is back in town, but I’m not going to talk about that right now. Instead I want to share with you something funny that happened last Friday.
I was sitting in my car during one of Kid Jupiters play dates, listening to BBC Global News Podcast, and maybe zoning out just a little bit. Then I looked up to my car’s ceiling, and noticed the sunglass holder that I never use, and probably should now that I finally have a pair of prescription sunglasses. I opened it up, and to my surprise there’s already a pair of sunglasses in there and I know I didn’t buy them because they’re not my style (nor are they prescription…and I need help to see clearly).
Where did they come from? This is the kind of mystery I would’ve expected from my previous car (that was a rental car in San Francisco for two years before I bought it). There were mysteries in that car, but nothing out of the ordinary. The most likely explanation for these sunglasses is that I found them somewhere and just put them in my car because that was convenient…then I forgot. Or maybe they simply belong to the sister who had permission to borrow my car while I was in Honolulu in 2019 (or one of her friends that rode in my car). Or maybe maybe I bought a magic Prius that creates sunglasses and I have accidentally insulted my own magic car because I didn’t like what it made for me. Maybe they belong to the car salesman who put in the first tank of gas before I picked it up? Maybe they were an accidental little gift from the Toyota Plant in Japan that manufactured the car?
Oh - I did ask Mister Jupiter, and he doesn’t know where they came from either. His guess is that he bought them for me as a silly purchase, and I set them aside for “safe keeping”…and we both forgot because they are neither my style nor prescription so I wouldn’t wear them anyway. Nobody knows!
