Episode 49 talks a bit about Mister Jupiter's new job, and why I'm changing my Key Spouse status. Luckily it's all good for us, and I'll talk more about the Change of Command later. Meanwhile I wanted to talk about peach & hibiscus infused water (🍑🌺💧), and my most recent audiobook purchases.

E49: Change of Command & Peach Water

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, casual fashion, and travel when possible. I’m happy that you’re here with me.
In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, continue with a blog update, then wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.
If you are a new listener, first I want to welcome you, and second I want to let you know that I do have a recording studio however recording in my car right now is the only way that I can produce this podcast, so please excuse my temporary lower audio quality it is the best that I can do right now.

Today in our military-affected lives I have a big update!
Since we talked last week, Mister Jupiter has taken command of his squadron. He was previously the Director of Operations which is still part of the command team. So for the last two years he has been busy with The operational details of running his squadron, and now he’s in the driver’s seat. It is a great privilege for both of us, even though I am stepping down from being the primary Key Spouse.

Mister Jupiter and I prefer team efforts, and we agreed that there needs to be some space between the Key Spouse (an official volunteer who supports the families), and the commanders wife. We were worried that someone would not reach out to me as a Key Spouse because I would also be the boss’ wife. I know that I can definitely stay within my lane and be trusted with confidential information or concerns, but I understand that other spouses don’t know that about me, and they would be more comfortable communicating regularly with someone else.

So luckily that problem was solved immediately and we are exceptionally lucky that the re-appointed squadron Key Spouse not only has experience in that exact position, but we are also lucky because she is good at it, and not as introverted as I am in some ways.
So it’s definitely been a busy week in the Jupiter House. Mister Joop stepped forward to command squadron, I’ve stepped back from Key “Spousing,” and Kid Jupiter is just here to cha-cha. (And yes, that was a quick reference to 1985’s Real Genius.)

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…
I have only updated this season’s Outfits of the Day post. I have many updates and new posts that I want to publish, but I don’t have the time because I still require sleep!

And now for my most recent domestic diversion
I am proud to inform you that I’ve been pretty good at folding the clean laundry lately…well, except for socks and wash cloths - those just go into a nearby basket so I can deal with them later. I’ve been keeping up with my own laundry by designating evenings to audiobooks and folding - not every night, but at least twice a week.

This audiobook & laundry habit started when I was in college. I would rotate the audio content between Pimsler’s French, any sci-fi classic on Audible, and that month’s squadron book club pick. It was a great way for me to relax my brain because otherwise I was writing at least three five-page papers each week and keeping on top of my required reading.

So lately I just finished listening to Andy Weir’s Hail Mary - it’s wonderful; just as exciting as The Martian; faster paced than Artemis. So now that I finished that one, I have finally started listening to The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson. It’s one of my sister’s favorites and came highly recommended all around.

Lastly I wanted to briefly talk about fruit water.
For our post-ceremony social that we hosted in our house, I knew that we would also be hosting some non-drinkers and I didn’t want to bore them by only catering to the alcohol drinkers, so I made a Water Bar in the kitchen. I got several bottles of sparkling mineral water, plus still mineral water, and I made a very special peach and hibiscus water.

Next time I do the peach and hibiscus I will definitely add a pinch of green tea, and heat to help the hibiscus petals unfurl. But as-is the water was delicious. No particular tricks to make it, just make sure to use clean organic fruit, and cut it as thin as you can after discarding the stone. I’ll link to the bottle I used in the show notes on Lady Jupiter Podcast .wordpress .com. It’s beautiful and practical, I’ve already given away my spare as a gift.
