E48: Valentina

Welcome back everybody!Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, casual fashion, and travel when possible. I’m happy that you’re here with me.

In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, continue with a blog update, then wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.

Just like my last episode, I am not recording in ideal conditions.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
Mr. Jupiter’s work continues as expected, and for those in the know, his position will be changing very soon. And for that reason I am going to be even more guarded and cagey about his work. Nothing too crazy though, he did not get recruited by the Men In Black (or any three-letter agency), his job still involves flying, teaching, and doing work at a desk - so not a huge shift, especially since we didn’t relocate, so that’s good!

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…nothing significant here either. I have updated my Outfits of the Day for this season, but don’t worry - it’s not a daily thing, I only record three outfits each week because I can manage that pace.

Otherwise I have not even attempted to write anything lately. I haven’t been able to really focus, so putting my beloved blog on hold is a wise choice right now. Hmm…maybe I misspoke - I can kind-of focus, but higher priority tasks are taking up my time. If I *even* sit down to compute in the afternoon I do other things like catch up on rug shopping because we’re ready to replace a shag rug with a shorter pile option. The shag rug still functions just fine, but we’ve started collecting robot vacuums, and the shag always requires accommodation before we can let the robots loose, so I finally picked a low maintenance replacement and it’s due to arrive this week.

So if you’re in my house soon, please ignore any new rug odor. I’ll try to air it out in the garage first, but I’m sure that it really needs an actual month to stop off-gassing.

And now for my most recent domestic diversion

Kid Jupiter and I are still getting used to his new schedule, it’s a little interesting having a commute again after not having one for so long. I am trying to balance this with seeing friends that do not live in our neighborhood, while also not wrecking kid Jupiters schedule too badly, and eventually, I can add bike rides into the mix when I have the newest folding bike next month. Bike or not, the new commute requires regular gasoline buying, and that is definitely a habit that I got out of, but I know I would be stopping more often if I was getting fewer than 50 miles per gallon. This week I’m averaging 53 mpg (which is 85 kilometers per hour for my metric friends) which is my highest average I’ve seen in my car since I bought it three years ago.

Otherwise I am thinking about making an unofficial food, or a recipe segment at the very end of this show. Nothing too detailed because I feel that it’s a little frustrating to listen to full recipes when you are driving, running, or in the middle of a nice long fast. But I enjoy sharing these things with you because that’s just the kind of person I am…I love sharing, and I love food, so of course I want to talk to you about food all of the time.

So with that in mind I want to briefly share one of my favorite light dinners. I generally only eat this when Mister Jupiter is out of town, and after Kid Jupiter has gone down to bed because I don’t want to share. It is simply steamed broccoli, topped with olive oil, hot sauce, salt and pepper. For the hot sauce I prefer something mild like Valentina. I used to buy it by the liter when I lived in California, but alas it’s too spicy for my child, so Mister Jupiter and I get to keep all of the hot sauces to ourselves.

If you like simple, and flavorful hot sauces I definitely recommend Valentina if you aren’t familiar with it. Most grocery stores sell it, so look there first - it’s inexpensive. If you can’t find it locally, Amazon has a handy set available - containing one regular yellow label, and one muy picante black label. And just like when I pick a bottle of Veuve Clicquot I buy the yellow label more often, but it’s good to have options. I’ll link to the Amazon set in the show notes on ladyjupiterpodcast .wordpress .com, so it’s always just a few clicks away.
