Episode 22 tells the story of how one of my most popular blog posts was born, but also touches again on a Zoom Happy Hour idea, and specifies how far behind I am in publishing something that doesn't really matter. But it's all good, no stress and a medium clean house is all I need.

Episode 22: D.I.Y. Humidifier & Unimportant Delays

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, home stuff, my low maintenance beauty and fashion, and travel when possible. I’m happy that you’re here with me.
Today I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, follow on with a blog update, then wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.

Today in our military affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
Last week’s hurricane is causing a ripple effect for Mister Jupiter, so we’re anticipating a week of long work days. But nothing too unusual.
Meanwhile I’m trying to find or create a list of things to do during a Zoom happy hour. This is because I loved playing with epoxy and pigment during my last Spouse Zoom, and I think that a list of things to do would be great to share with my spouses so that they know that it’s okay to bring a project, and not look at the camera. I know that direct engagement isn’t everyone’s forté, so I’m trying to redirect that particular spotlight. Regardless, the next Zoom Happy Hour will be presented as a Show And Tell, because we all have a little something that we’re proud of and I really want to see these things because I am interested.

For today’s LadyJupiter.com blog talk…
I have updated this season’s Outfit of the Day post, and that’s it. I had more plans, but needed to cook dinner early, so…my time was not spent writing.

But! Since it’s the first of the month - it’s time to talk about the most popular blog post that I haven’t talked about already…This one is D.I.Y. Winter Humidifier. The popularity with this one has surprised me this year. Usually its popularity only peaks in the winter months, but this one has been popular all spring and summer too - not sure how that adds up. Regardless - it’s a simple post.
One cold and dry winter day in Kansas my hair was frizzing, but skin was hurting and my dogs were staticy - all signs of low humidity. At the time we even had a whole house humidifier - generally regarded as a gold standard device, but that winter was extra arid. I started running ultrasonic humidifiers (one on each floor in our most-used room. So the one in the basement was with my plants (be advised that this basement lead to the backyard - it wasn’t the cellar-type of dark dank basement - it was plenty light thanks to some well positioned sky lights), one in our shared office on the main floor, then one in our bedroom upstairs). Even with all of these, the kitchen was still dry, and I spent enough time in there cooking that we moved our slim radiator up to the kitchen if we were just hanging out there - so I brainstormed for a minute, and plopped a clean terra cotta plant pot into a glass vase full of filtered water, and placed it on a cart near the heater. As the evening progressed the water level decreased and my hair was only 8 of 10 frizzy instead of 9 of 10 frizzy.
Tiny improvement? YES! Enough to turn off the little humidifiers? NO. That’s okay - I only needed a little boost, and that’s what this was. That’s why this posts’ popularity has been so surprising to me; it’s not a super unique and brilliant idea, but it can be pretty and definitely wicks moisture into dry air. My little humidifier is a great companion to indoor plants - especially if they’re grouped together - the plants and humidifier can keep their little area humid and friendly. In the future I would love to have an Earthship-style home with a greenhouse attached to the southern side of the house that can stay hot and humid all year long.
Anyhoo - here’s the link to that original article; D.I.Y. Winter Humidifier. If you want to give it a go, please do! Just don’t expect miracles or dramatic changes. It’s a little more effective than a bowl of water out in the open, so it’s better than nothing, but it’s not as effective as an electric humidifier.

And now for my most recent domestic diversion
I’ve been okay at getting home-tasks completed this week. The other night Mister Jupiter took on some laundry, so that freed up my time and conscience to apply a heat reflecting film to some windows, clean the stove, and…make a grocery list. I forgot the cottage cheese, but that’s fine - we can manage.

Otherwise I am nearly caught up on show notes too, and that’s just a great feeling to have so many little things move out of my mental To Do list. Plenty of things remain - like my personal life comics at diurnatango.wordpress.com. I agreed to stop them in June, and am still 17 weeks behind, meaning that I still have 17 to make before I meet the end in June…obviously that timeline has nothing to do with real time - not any more. It used to follow the real world and each week would be published a week after the actual week in time, but I have lost the time to keep up, so here we are, 17 comic weeks behind, and many more real-time weeks.

Oh well. See, when I sit down to do digital tasks - the comic definitely comes last. I spend a surprising amount of time sorting photos and deleting them from my phone because I regularly run out of storage space and can’t take new photos. I would get a bigger phone with more storage, but my current phone barely fits in my pockets at all, and that’s a whole different level of annoying that I am not going into today. Just let it be known that I am not pleased with the size of women’s pockets, and I refuse to wear a purse in my own house just to keep my phone on me but not in my hands.

And that’s it for today’s show!

If you're interested in getting fresh show notes in your email - I have a solution for you! Click over to my show notes blog (here’s a quick link!), open any show note and scroll down to the bottom of the page. You'll see a follow button - so follow that specific blog and you'll get an email when I post new show notes. Said show notes don’t summarize my banter - instead they link to the transcript, then to any articles or products that I mention. You would think that the simplicity would make them easy to keep up with…but that’s not the case for me right now. Maybe later though.

Anyway - I have some humidifiers to fill, so I’ll get on that. Talk to you next week, bye!
