Episode № 88 Air Force Ball 2022

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.

In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, then continue with a blog update, and wrap up with something domestic.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.

Last weekend Mister Jupiter and I went to our local Air Force Ball. It was fun because we like stuff like that. I love renting gowns and wearing impractical shoes while seeing our friends similarly dressed up. Mister Jupiter (like most of the service members) are not too fond of their Mess Dress, but I love seeing their party shirts after dinner when the formal portion of the evening is concluded.

I also happen to enjoy speeches, so that’s fun too. Our speaker gave Mister Jupiter’s squadron some positive attention and we got the opportunity to sound off - all four of us! Greater representation would have been nice, but we definitely understand that not everyone enjoys such events. We still had a blast seeing everyone, we enjoyed our meals and desserts, but sad that the coffee cart didn’t make it to our table. We chatted briefly with the guest brigadier general after dinner, and it seemed that he didn’t remember me talking his ear off in June (and that’s a good thing)! I made sure to use more brevity this time, so hopefully that will be remembered.

Otherwise, my dress anxiety was unneeded after all (it’s a September miracle). When the dress was finally delivered, we were having a healthy dinner of pizza and beer. Despite that dinner, and the zipper being a little stubborn, the dress FIT. So that’s when I started scrambling to find jewelry, and ultimately wore my pearls. The jewelry scramble made me curious about my engagement ring…which fits again! I haven’t been able to wear my solitaire since I got pregnant with Kid Jupiter.

Quick segue without getting too off track - the first changes after that positive pregnancy test were swollen fingers and an expanded ribcage. After he was born my body started shrinking in the reverse order, like walking backwards in time. It was only in the past six months that my ribcage and fingers finally went down. I dropped about three inches in ribcage circumference, and two ring sizes - Kid Jupiter will be four in a few months, so I’ve been bigger for a while. This is why I was so anxious about the dress, I hadn’t worn my old size since the last Air Force Ball we went to!

Our last Air Force Ball was five years ago, when we lived in Kansas. We were at an Army Post for eleven months, and the Air Force presence wasn’t huge so we had a much smaller ball that year. Both were fantastic in the end. We’ll have a new address when the 2023 Ball comes around, and I hope we’re settled in by the time tickets go on sale. But if the house is mostly in boxes before we go out in fancy dress - well, it wouldn’t be the first time (because it would be the second. I’ll spare you the details until they become relevant).

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…the site is still up and running.

And lastly something domestic.

I have not YET made the steamed buns that I mentioned last episode. In fact, I haven’t opened up that cookbook again. Not because I don’t care -because I definitely care- it’s just that Kid Jupiter requires my full attention pretty much the entire time he is awake, so that leaves me zero time to read…anything. We had a good set up for independent play last month, but somehow the 40 to 50 minutes of alone time has reduced to about 10, so…that needs work.

And that’s it for today’s episode.
