Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.

In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, then continue with a blog update, and wrap up with something domestic.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.

Since we last talked I did get to have dinner with several of the squadron spouses a few nights ago. We went to a restaurant that was new-to-me, but well established in town. It was good overall, they had a great wine list and some fun menu options. I ordered a vegetarian sandwich, not because I am vegetarian (I’m omnivorous), but because I like any sandwich that is heavy on cream cheese and features olives. I’m not in a huge rush to get back to that restaurant though. I’m happy to have gone, but I’ve had consistently better service elsewhere. I’ll surely be back later, but…no rush.

Otherwise, Mister Jupiter and I visited River Bottom Winery - the second nearest winery to our house. It was about 40 minutes door-to-door, and out by Pinnacle Mountain State Park for you central Arkansas explorers that are familiar. We definitely had a nice afternoon. We filled up on Gouda pimento, plus a charcuterie board and enjoyed a bottle on their very large patio overlooking a creek. It was out there that I realized that Kid Jupiter and I accidentally stole a toy that we borrowed from one of the spouses the other night. So “Amanda One,” if you’re listening I will be in touch with you shortly to right our wrong and return Lightning McQueen to your purse 😬

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…also nothing too significant here. I recently reformatted my workflow for writing my Picks of the Week blog posts. I’m not going to bore you with the minutiae of the tiny revelations I’ve had about said workflow. So instead I’ll just let you know that I’ve got one that’s almost ready to publish. It just needs a little more of my attention.

And lastly something domestic.

I just wanted to share my apprehension about not fitting into a gown that I ordered two months ago to wear at an upcoming ball. The apprehension is mostly based on the absolute chaos of women’s sizing, and partially based on my shrinking size - I wear a SMEDIUM (which doesn’t actually exist. For my non-anglophone listeners “size smedium” is a portmanteau of small and medium. It’s colloquially used to define that odd middle size when smalls are too small, yet medium is too large).

The other night, when I was out with other squadron spouses, I realized that I needed to make sure that I did fit into my backup dress, because it won’t be an option if it doesn’t fit. Well guess what? It didn’t zip up all the way…so it doesn’t fit.

That dress is a small, and it was too small. But the medium sized pants I tried that day were too big. I fit into a different brand’s size four dress, so now I’m extra anxious about fitting into this rented gown. Usually I’m the last person to worry, but the tables have finally turned. The combination of my shrinking size, plus the bonkers logic of women’s sizing simply add up to uneasiness…and me buying a size medium backup dress that will surely fit in the event that the designer gown doesn’t work out. Hell. My original dress may be too big - but that’s unlikely.

Good thing I have two more weeks to panic about this.

Oh well, at least I know what to expect otherwise. We already have a babysitter booked and confirmed, and we know how to get to the venue. We’re very familiar with black tie events and protocol, and I just love seeing our friends dressed up. I think I ordered the vegetarian meal. I don’t know what it is, but I do know that it won’t be some sad chicken breast - my least favorite main course. It’ll be fun, and I’ll probably have a little more to speculate about next week, because I’ll still be waiting for the rented dress and the actual ball. But I should have my size medium backup dress on hand - so stay tuned!
