Episode № 81 The Upgrade House

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.

In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, then continue with a blog update, and wrap up with something domestic.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
Since we last spoke a friend recently promoted and pinned on Lieutenant Colonel. We went to his ceremony, and both receptions.

Otherwise it’s been a quiet week, hence the publishing delay. No news about our next PCS or potential offers, but we’re pretty sure that we’re not going to the moon, so I can probably wait until we’re settled into the next address before I replace the dining room table.

When we leave our current home, we would have been here for four entire years. Our two previous moves were barely double digit months, so we never fully unpacked. But this house was different. Since we’re here so long we decided that this was the upgrade house. We made some big decisions quickly (so we could enjoy them longer - like staining the patio concrete blue), and to upgrade little things while we have the time. In our three years we have upgraded the couch, our mattress, barstools, eating utensils, vacuums, LEGO displays, one rug, one car, and added some matching shelves to hopefully function as portable closets for small things we use in each home.

We’re pretty happy with the household otherwise - but we have decided that the big blue wool rug is on the chopping block. I love it dearly because it’s so big and beautiful, but it’s impossible to clean. So replacing that rug will be my last upgrade in this upgrade house. Our next home will be the one where I replace the dining room table.

Kid Jupiter’s stuff is on a different timeline though -since it’s all dependent on his interests, abilities, and height. Apparently we’re buying him a twin bed sooner than I thought because he is getting taller by the minute. I guess it’s good to know that some people can actually thrive on grape juice, oatmeal, and bologna sandwiches.

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update — the site is still up and running.

And lastly something domestic. I’m really enjoying using GoodNotes as a digital planner. It’s helping me sort ideas in space and time, but it’s still up to me to remember the ideas or events first.

I’m especially enjoying the ability to upload my own custom templates and pages for whatever I want. It may sound silly, but organizing all of my free-floating thoughts is really relaxing. Using a digital planner and having endless digital paper is amazing to capture the ideas that clutter the mind, then I can organize them in reference to importance or location, then I can make a plan about them and ACTUALLY DO THE THING.

It needs daily attention and I’m still working to find a good place for it in my daily routine. My brain is feeling less burdened, and the calendar is filling up with events that are fun, practical, and ideally - both!

And that’s it for today’s episode.
