Episode № 79 Mostly Post-Covid

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.

In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military, then continue with a blog update, and wrap up with something domestic.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.

Since we last spoke Mister Jupiter’s squadron had a social. It’s a meet & greet that we have at the beginning of each class, so it happens twice a year, it is here at our home Air Force Base, and everybody who graduated from his school is invited. Well, past graduates and their families of course; it is always a family friendly event. This one was very well put together, especially for our heat waves and high humidity. The organizer ordered several pizzas, rented an inflatable waterslide, and had plenty of reusable water balloons, with buckets of water for easy filling - plus plenty of water to drink, it was the perfect set up for a few hours in the sun.

I’m not sure if I really embarrassed myself like I typically plan on. I mean - I did forget my inhaler and I parked far away - but I don’t classify those as being embarrassing; that’s just normal non-perfection. Anyway, I DID NOT get to chat with as many spouses and students as I wanted to, but that’s okay.

We had a blast overall, even though I forgot to take a photo of my pizza and beer for my Pizza and Beer Yearbook. Kid Jupiter ate an entire slice, and played with a water gun. I got to meet the Honorary Squadron Commander (he’s one of Arkansas’ 40 under 40), and I got a fair reminder that if an invitation says anything about water balloons - that I shouldn’t wear white. I suppose that I could have been very embarrassed after being easy prey for the kids with water guns, but it was hot, and my non-clingy shirt dried quickly…so it was okay. Next time I’ll dress more matronly…maybe.

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…I got the ball rolling and published Outfits of the Day Q3, and I updated my blog post about growing out a mohawk.

Even though my last shave was in 2018, just for fun I am still updating it a little bit to show my hair now. So after my last actual mohawk shaving in December 2018, I didn’t touch my hair with any clippers or scissors until July 2020. That is when I went to a salon and had my long mohawk cut off to roughly match the length of the grown-out sides of my head.

Just for fun I updated that post in July 2021 to show how long my hair gotten since the mohawk was officially cut off. So I kept it going and provided two more photos of my hair in July because I still haven’t had any haircuts or trims for two years. Thanks to my sometimes-excellent record keeping, I was able to specify that the most recent photos were taken 1,107 days after my last haircut.

I am kind of thinking about getting a haircut later this year, but I don’t know what I want. Overall I know that I want something that doesn’t have to be touched for a few years, but sometimes I really miss having bangs despite the fussy maintenance, and frequent hair washing to keep them neat that also dries out my scalp.

I’ll figure something out. We’ll be here still for double digit months, and I fully plan on getting my hair cut at the nearest salon school anyway. Actually, I think I’ll pop in next week for a facial, I’ve been meaning to do that for years. Maybe seeing other people’s intentional hairs will inspire me to be less haphazard with my own? I’ve got time, no rush.

And lastly something domestic.
I just wanted to catch you up with our healing, since we finally got covid earlier this month.

I told you last week that I just experienced a bad cold - and that’s been the same, each one of us has gotten better each day. The one thing that has been different about healing up from covid is that the recovery has been more gradual than Mister Jupiter and I are used to with colds, or flus. Typically we would be noticeably down for a day or two, then feel better overnight - but not this time. Instead we only increased our health by about ten percent each day. So it was a noticeable improvement, but also at a noticeably slower rate than we are used to.

I’ve been tracking my recovery with Lumen (the breathalyzer that measures CO2 output), and my Oura ring. It’s interesting because I am feeling just fine, but my data instead is reflecting a little illness. I know that I keep skewing my own data though, just a little bit. The best data is when I have zero alcohol, and since I’m feeling better I am definitely having a beer for dessert.

I hope that I’m back to full health before my Lumen subscription expires. Having Covid dropped my Flex Score, and I wish that there was an “illness” or “extreme stress” tag that made morning breath measurements less impactful on said Flex Score - but alas. That isn’t the case, and soon I’ll get to share what happens when your Lumen gets bricked - then next year I’ll get to share the changes after taking a break because the next one-month membership I buy will be for June 2023. Well, unless Lumen announces unpaid functionality before then, but I’m not going to wait for that.

And that’s it for today’s episode.
