Episode № 67: Still watching. Also, beans.

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.

In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military then continue with a blog update, and wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
Just like the last episode, we are still watching.

Since last, we were a tiny bit social. Two of Mister Jupiter‘s…long distance coworkers were in town, and I’m happy that I finally got to meet them. Another is here, but I’ll maybe meet him tomorrow.

Also since last episode, I took Kid Jupiter to dinner with two other squadron spouses at a new-to-me restaurant in town. The only time that I had a meal from them was one day when Mister Jupiter called in an order and picked up lunch, so I had not walked in until recently. After going over their menu online to ensure that they had something that I could order for the Kid, I failed to realize that they do not serve any alcohol. Of course that is not a negative in anyway, but it sure did make me feel foolish when I asked to see the wine list.

Good thing though - my record of embarrassing myself quickly at any squadron-related event remains untarnished. Then on the way out I made sure to still tip our server with the amount that I expected to pay for a glass of Bordeaux.

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…I have only updated Outfits of the Day like I usually do on the weekends, and that was it. I would love to do more, and one day I will.
📌 Outfits of the Day :: Q1 2022

And now for my most recent domestic diversion…the dryer is full of clean clothes, well not super full. Mostly just a handful of tee-shirts and socks. I’ll go in there later and refresh the tee-shirts after I remove the socks, no sense in subjecting dry elastic foot tubes to more heat then is absolutely necessary.

But I do have a medium diversion for you! I have been on the fence about getting a new personal blender for a while. We have a Ninja blender which is pretty great overall, the downsides are that it is physically large, definitely loud, sometimes difficult to clean, and sometimes smells like burning when the motor is running. It’s perfect for blending hot soups, but I wonder if a smaller blender would be better for more frequent use.

The real reason that I want to try something else is because I have a lot of powdered supplements that I want to use, and last year taught me that it is impossible for me to ever use anything that I don’t see regularly unless it’s chocolate-related. I don’t remember if I talked about it or not, but I’ve had several attempts at just trying to have one scoop of collagen every day, and the best I can do is maybe four days in a row, and that is just one of the many supplements that I have available. So I want a new blender that was smaller, doesn’t smell like burning, et cetera because I want to get back in the habit of having regular smoothies.

The last time that I had regular smoothies, I was making them when we lived in Leavenworth, Kansas. I personally feel better with lower sugars, including lower fruit quantities in my life, and my smoothies are no exception. My Leavenworth smoothies were basically liquid salads, and I never subjected anybody to them, and I wouldn’t really call them delicious either. But some thing about my body parts just really wanted chopped up kale, lemon juice, green tea, and water. It was not sweet, it was not smooth, but it was what I wanted. This time I want to try using more beans, and fewer leafy greens. I know it may sound crazy, but if you Google the terms “garbanzo bean cocoa smoothie”, there are many results - it’s not just me. Granted most of them include ingredients that I would rather avoid such as bananas because I am allergic and pitted dates because they are full of sugar - but I want to try out some combinations of raw-cacao laden bean-based non-fruit smoothies for my supplement powders so that I can actually use them before we move again.

Our next PCS definitely is in the future, but now is the time for me to start working on the slow movers, meaning that the things that move very slowly in the pantry I need to start working on those now so we don’t attempt to move or discard containers that have a lot of usable product. So with that in mind there’s a fair chance that I may sweeten my romantic bean smoothies with that jar of molasses that we’ve moved at least twice.

If you have any tried and true bean-based non-fruit smoothie recipes - I would love to see some ideas (my email address is podcast@ladyjupiter.com) ! For the record I don’t ingest sugar-free-sweeteners like Stevia because they do not jive with my body, and I don’t ingest bananas in any form because they make my mouth super itchy - at least they did the last time I had fresh banana…which was when my friend said “drink this!” in 2009 - and I thought I was going to see the inside of a South Korean emergency room. Luckily I had antihistamines on-hand, and was able to manage my symptoms, but yeah. Being allergic to bananas makes smoothies challenging. So I’m looking for beans to provide the texture and fiber without the sugar and swelling.

And that’s it for today’s quick episode.
