Episode № 65: Watching Russia 👀

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.

In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military (including something that I enjoy about our current duty station), then continue with a blog update, and wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.
Russia decided to go ahead and begin their “special military operation” in Ukraine…so that’s happening. We can only speculate the outcome of this attack. I don’t have enough information to make any opinions worth listening to, and Mister Jupiter keeps his political opinions to himself. So I don’t have anything particular to say about this world event, especially as it’s unfolding, but we are watching.
If you’re a family member who’s about to call me - just wait. There’s subtlety is my words. I’m clear about “we are watching” because Mister Jupiter is here, I am not watching alone. I’m also clear about watching; that is to say that we have nothing to do with any direct actions. So when I say “we’re watching” I mean each word, and I want to emphasize that the opposite is not happening. I know you worry worts. Calm down.

Since our last chat I took Kid Jupiter to Wally’s Java on Little Rock AFB. The base has two coffee shops that I’m aware of - so, if there are more please email me at podcast@ladyjupiter.com and let me know so I can visit them!! - I definitely know about Starbucks in the BX, and Wally’s Java in Walter’s Community Center (which is also home to the base library, and the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

For the sake of market research I ordered a small breve mocha. Any coffee shop can make it - it’s just espresso, chocolate, and steamed half and half. Clearly it’s really just a hot milkshake and I love them. My drink was made quickly and was delicious! I wanted to sip it, but in this world of masks, this meant that I could only remove my mask when seated in the cafe, and stay put while sipping. Remember when we used to walk and sip coffee in public? I remember.

Either way, Kid Jupiter was amazing and let me drink my hot milkshake while being perfectly well behaved. While we hung out on the couch, a few couples came and went - ordering coffees and pastries, or sandwich wraps for lunch. The cafe has reduced seating indoors, maybe 10 seats, mostly in pairs, they also have a few tables outside if you’re tired of feeling your face and would rather have a sit in the cold. Wally’s Java also has a phone charging station, so if your device needs some juice, you are welcome to plug it in while you’re there. 

It’s a nice little spot, they have what I want, and that’s good enough for me!

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…I’ve updated Outfits of the Day Q1, and even squeezed out a new ephemeral blog post titled “Twosday Time Capsule 2/22/22” because I just felt like sharing a dozen favorite pairs of things - so I did.

In that post I gush a little about metallic leather jackets, dogs, A5 binders, microphones, emergency flashlights, WubbaNubs, allergy medication, electric bicycles, smart rings, red light panels, macadamia nuts, and limes. Essentially all of the things that have made me happy this month…that also are all available in pairs, so following the theme of two was easy. TWO easy as they say. And now for my most recent domestic diversion...I have a dryer full of clean clothes because I forget that they are in there.

In other news Mister Jupiter and I finally watched Shang-Chi on Disney and loved it! I’ll never understand the hypercritical people who hated it, or complained about any of the actors. It was a fun adventure and we both enjoyed it and look forward to more. I especially loved Awkwafina’s jackets!

And a follow up from last episode - I still haven’t texted Kim. I am also behind on texting like…10 people actually.

Despite appearances I am trying to improve, and I’m even making baby steps in the right direction! Since last episode I visited my very first psychologist for an ADHD assessment, and he concluded that I have ADHD and anxiety. Yay. So now it’s my task to pester my primary care manager about who is going to prescribe me medications. I can’t do it, and neither can the psychologist. I anticipate a new referral to a psychiatrist…who - by definition is a mental health specialist with a prescription pad - and coincidentally the exact type of professional I asked for three months ago when I started trying to get help. Ugh.

Hopefully my PCM can at least get me started on something for the anxiety so I can communicate like a normal person again - any improvement is welcome. So if you’re listening to this and waiting for a text back from me - don’t worry! I haven’t forgotten you, I’m just a little bit crippled by my excessive to-do list. You are great. Keep sending me stuff - I’m definitely reading ❤️
