Episode № 64 Snow Day Protocols & Chang Thai

Welcome back everybody!
Lady Jupiter Podcast is the audio accompaniment to LadyJupiter.com a lifestyle blog where I write about my family’s military life, our home life, and other tiny details that I just like to share. I’m happy that you’re here with me.

In this episode I’ll share an update on our life as affected by the U.S. military (including something that I enjoy about our current duty station), then continue with a blog update, and wrap up with my most recent domestic diversion.

Today in our military-affected lives I have nothing significant to update.

Like a lot of the Continental United States we got some snow days since the last episode, so Mister Jupiter and many many others got to work from home while everything was closed. Besides work from home tasks, I call the expected snow-day activities Snow Day Protocols, and they’re fun for us. Our old protocol was Mister Jupiter making us “Kandahar Breakfast” which was hash browns with fried eggs, bacon or Spam, covered in cheese, gravy, or both! It was usually followed with mimosas, and we’d hang out on the couch and watch movies with the dogs all day.

Protocols need regular refreshing, so we’re working to update our Snow Day Protocol to include our son. Kid Jupiter and I both hate the cold, so that’s easy to avoid; no sledding or snow shoeing for us. For special food I made my first batch of arepas con queso - and yes, I was definitely influenced from watching Encanto (and the Kid loved his! I can’t wait to make the next batch). When Kid Jupiter gets bigger I want to introduce hot chocolate, fluffy blankets, and book reading, but he’s too full of energy right now to appreciate sitting down - but we’ll get there.

But while we’re here and thinking about warming things - I need to tell you about one of my favorite restaurants outside of Little Rock AFB. It’s a Thai restaurant called Chang Thai, it’s in Sherwood on highway 107.  If we order via DoorDash, the spice level is a default zero apparently. But when we call in orders ourselves, my personal dish always comes out the spiciest - so even if I request a low level of heat (because I want dinner, not pain) my soup or noodles will be the spiciest dish in the house. This has happened a few times now and we just expect it. I think it’s funny overall, and Mister Jupiter thinks it’s funny that I am determined to finish my soup…even as I cool it down with my tears, and need to blow my nose every other bite.

Despite my rampant love of soups, my favorite dish is theirs is Spicy Basil Fried Rice - it’s just fried rice with a lot of basil and spicy spices. It’s so simple, but they do it just right. It’s super delicious and I will eat the entire tray in one sitting - or at least in the same day. It can’t stay in this house; if my tastebuds know that it’s in the house, then my lack of impulse control really shines. Otherwise I order "Pad See You" if I need noodles, and I love both of their soups. Kid Jupiter even surprised me by enjoying Tom Kha (zero spice via DoorDash).

I need to call in an order soon. They recently updated their menu to reflect current pricing, and I am always happy to give them more money - they make excellent food when I don’t want to cook. Besides, I want them to stay open, and where they are. The last thing we need is another dollar store or storage facility! I treat each dollar spent as a vote, and I will always vote for more Thai food - especially when so close to Little Rock AFB and easily accessible!

For today’s LadyJupiter.com update…I’ve updated Outfits of the Day Q1, and published a new public note about my vocal booth. I’ve been wanting to write it for months, and I finally got to start and finish it.

My Public Notes usually provide information for internet strangers, or are notes to self that I compile publicly for super easy searching.

And now for my most recent domestic diversion -
I’m skipping this segment today. I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to publish as regularly as I like. I’m kind of thinking about paying for a speech synthesizer because that’s easier than finding 10 minutes to record, and later finding the time to edit and upload and update all of the things.

Voicing and producing a podcast takes a lot of time that I don’t have and I’m sorry that you’re the one who gets the short end of the stick with irregular uploads. I promise you that we’re fine, I just don’t have time for my own hobbies.

And that’s it for today’s episode.

This episode is brought to you by my inability to text people on their birthdays - specifically Kim’s recent milestone! I can’t believe she’s finally 21 and I can’t wait to buy her her first martini. I’m sorry I forgot to text you - I’ve just gotten more embarrassed as each hour passes, and for some reason I find it easier to tell the world that I’m tardy because the world knows that I’m almost always late?! Anyhoo - happy recent birthday, and I hope to see you later this year.

And a big shout out to Patreon patron Chris! His monthly support keeps the lights on at LadyJupiter.com and Lady Jupiter Podcast. His support is the equivalent cost to a latte on the first of the month, so if you too can spare $4, then you can support me too!
